Is a 6 minute walk worth it?

Posted on January 2, 2020 at 2:05 PM Comments comments (0)

I woke up late. I have bed head. I'm really tired.

It's one of those days where I want to go back to bed, get under the covers and just be sleepy cosy all day.

ONE of the problems with this is that staying in bed too long physically hurts my body. It's better if I get up!

I think about a friend of mine who specialises in Kinesiology (body movement!) and her passion for us to all just keep moving. It matters NOW so we can move when we are 60,70,80!

I believe it. Just keep going.

So even though I am tired today, I will get moving. It's my commitmment to myself. (note: my walk today was only 6 minutes. It was all I could do.) Remember this: every step counts. If 6 minutes is all you can do today, that's ok. Be proud and reset tomorrow.

6 minutes didn't make me happy. Didn't make me feel joy. BUT it was all I could do today. So I flip that on it's head... and now I think:

6 minutes is better than 0.

I got outside today.

I'm doing my best.

Wow, that sounds a lot better than 'bad job for only 6 minutes'. And when I give myself a pat on the back for 6 minutes, it really lifts me up. Nobody ever got better at something with someone telling them how bad they are! Celebrate all small wins.

Going Grey like a champion

Posted on January 2, 2020 at 2:05 PM Comments comments (0)

Those grey hairs and I have come to an understanding.

They want to live there. Right there in the front. They want to be the stars of the show and who am I to tell them no!

They have been sneaking in for the last 19 years and now it's a good size crop.

It's just too much work, so instead of colouring, combing and changing... I will love them.

I can't say that I won't ever do the mad dash for brunette again, and I have always wanted to do rainbow or at least blue hair.. but for now, welcome gorgeous grey.

Who else is going grey?

Choose to LOVE it!

I am Wonderful...train your brain!

Posted on January 2, 2020 at 2:00 PM Comments comments (0)

I am wonderful. Train your Brain.

Think of the wonderful, kind person you are. You are loving. You are good! You are needed in this world.

Be kind to yourself.✨

You are wonderful and sweet.

Say it outloud. You need to hear it, you need to believe it.

I am kind.

I am loving.

I am sweeet.

I am good.

I am needed in this world.

I am understanding.

I am patient.

I am good.

This doesn't mean you are perfect at these things.... but it does absolutey no good to run a negative self chatter through your mind. Let's make it positive! You are worth it, you deserve to hear good things. You are loved.

What else would be on your list?

I am...

A Gift of Books & inscriptions from Mom

Posted on January 2, 2020 at 2:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Ever open a book to to find an inscription written to someone?

I have a treasure collection from my mom. Every Christmas she gave each of us kids a Christmas book. Some were tradtional, some were modern, all were beautifully illustrated and have an inscription of love on page 1. These books have given to me by my mother over a span of 20 years, I’m missing a few, one dates back to 1999 and she passed out a new book each Christmas to her kids.

That little squiggle in the front page is so special especially now. I always appreciated this gesture but maybe not as much then as I do now.

It’s the little things we do that inspire, encourage and touch others lives... we each have that opportunity to lift others up, to leave a mark on others hearts, to create a memory that lasts...

Let’s go into 2020 lifting each other up and making a mark in others lives... We rise by lifting others!

Daily Walk... not perfect but trying!

Posted on December 30, 2019 at 3:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Waking with my husband.  Daily physical activity is good for the body, mind and soul.

Every little step counts. Our walk is a 20 minute loop around a couple blocks and riverfront. It's beautiful and worth it. Am I always in the mood for it? No. I'm busy. I'm tired. I have other things to do. It's gray outside. Really, now? And sometimes he feels that way too. So, we have committed to each other to walk together. We are working on saying 'yes' when the other one asks so that we do it.

Today he was the instigator and I was the grump. I put my boots on with a sigh. We started walking quietly (honestly, that might even be his preference, but I'm quite a chatty unusual for me). We passed a d.o.g. and my eyes lit up. That was all it took. Now I'm having the time of my life on the trail. I looped my arm in Ben's and said 'good job, honey'. He replied, 'No, YOU, good job honey.'

Are we perfect at it? No. There are still days we miss. Days where neither of us wants to be the walk-cheerleader. But that's ok. We don't need to be perfect at it...we just need to keep at it.

It's something that we wanted to start now... So it becomes a life long habit. Is a 20 minute walk going to complete my health and fitness routine or goals? It certainly will only add to it. And when we are 82, we will be grateful for our years of walking together. I just know it.

Snacking- Set an END time

Posted on December 30, 2019 at 3:00 PM Comments comments (0)

I love snacking. Chips, popcorn, pretzels. One of the worst things for you is snacking during TV time... it becomes mindless and you don't listen to your body say 'I'm full'.... you listen to your tongue say 'this is DELICIOUS... gimme 17 more...' (or at least that is how it works for me!)

My deadline for snacking is 8pm. After that, I am allowed to have herbal tea. For me, it's tasty and comforting. It has been an adjustment (and, oh, I'm not perfect at it...sometimes that popcorn calls me TOO loudly...which also pairs with me working on a better bedtime ritual... yes, yes, that's right.. I have a set are crying that it's 'time for bed' and I'm over here like 'why doesn't somebody put me to bed?' ) ...but it's a goal that I have set... to continue healthy things.

If you are looking for a little something to do with regards to snacking or foods. Try this. A lot of my ideas for success are these little, simple steps.

AND remember.. you don't have to be perfect at it! Give yourself a break sometimes too. Just work towards being more mindful of it. That's my 2 cents...and 12 chips today. :) Hugs from Kris

You are Awesome..even when you don't get things done!

Posted on December 30, 2019 at 3:00 PM Comments comments (0)

What about the blues? The lows? The days that are hard? Or even feel impossible. You are still awesome. Just want to remind you of that. :)

AND... you're not alone. Today my dishes are too hard to do, my laundry is too heavy to complete, my deck is too big to sweep. I just have no energy for it. So, I don't *feel* very awesome.

The challenge is to let those 3 things JUST BE.

I still LOVE a clean kitchen, but it's ok today.

I like an empty laundry hamper, but it's ok today.

I like a tidy deck, but it's ok today.

Here's for you to read out loud. And just let some things be...

You are awesome.

Say it: I am awesome.

(Even though the dishes might not get done's still true).

You are Wonderful

Posted on December 30, 2019 at 3:00 PM Comments comments (0)

What would your best friend say about you? ❤️

What would your mom say about you? ‍♀️

Please think of those things and then.. YOU say them about you.

We can build one another up.

We can love and lift a friend.

We need to do more for OURSELVES.

Because.. I just know in my heart.. YOU are doing your very best.. and who can ask for more? You ARE wonderful.

Now you say it. You are wonderful.. oops.. say it like this:

I AM WONDERFUL. (ok, you can't fool me.. that was just reading it silently.. say it OUT LOUD: I AM WONDERFUL.)

Actually it would be EVEN better if you went to a mirror and said it. 3 times. I am Wonderful. Do IT.

I am Grateful. Use a moment to re-set

Posted on December 30, 2019 at 3:00 PM Comments comments (0)

There is always something to be grateful for.

Start your day with gratitude.

It only takes a minute and can really impact your mind and day!

Try it.. you can do it... here's how:

1. Place your hand on your heart and think of a moment or person you are grateful for.

2. Breath in and take yourself to that moment...or a moment with that person. Smile as you think of it. Breath in and out as you think of it.

Let your hands touch your heart so you feel it beating.

Let your hands connect with your body.

Let your mind feel grateful. ❤️

Breath in. Breath out. 3x

This is a beautiful way to start your day. You can do as many breaths as you like... but I recommend 3 .. at least to start.. otherwise it's too rushed and you're panting. Like a little puppy.... not that puppies aren't grateful... but there's a 'rush' to one breath.. and 3 can slow it down.

This small, simple act can be a re-set button throughout the day. It takes less than a minute... I work on doing this daily. I often do it in my bed just before I get up. It changes how I start my day. I really love it.

(so, the photo is totally staged, standing in my living room, looking cute in plaid sleeves. but that is how it looks to 'touch your heart'... just like that!)

Do it whenever you need to slow down, re-set, remind.
